Group Report For Dawn Patrol – Aug 2023 – Online Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous

Group Report for Dawn Patrol - Aug 2023

OIAA Group Report

Group Name: Dawn Patrol Online and Dawn Patrol Eighth Meeting

Intergroup Representative: Mike T.    Date: 5 Aug  2023

Group Information: Dawn Patrol Online (7 am EST daily) and Dawn Patrol Eighth Meeting (6 pm EST Wed) are meetings that arose during Covid when the venue for homegroup closed. The Daily Dawn Patrol Online is now an online only group based from Newark, Delaware. We offer a literature-based, open meetings welcoming both men and women. Online is organized as a standing committee of the whole group and has an elected chair, secretary, treasurer and OIAA IG Rep. Currently we share GSR  with the in-person Dawn Patrol but are seeking a new GSR for the online group (representing District 5, Area 12). The standing committee meets the first Sunday of each month for our business meetings. Online meetings consist largely but not exclusively of beginners and passersby. It has a membership of approximately twenty, with 30-50 people attending daily. Increasingly, online is a group of regulars, from all over the world, who are no longer strangers.

Actions – Challenges and Successes –

Success:

We continue to progress with the formation of an new online group and attendance remains high with new vistors both in the US and abroad. We continue to take contributions via Cash App but considering other means of collection donations from folks in other countries. We are now a new group and have successfully completed the “waiting period” of 30 days per the “New Group” Guidelines.

July 29th Assembly:

On Saturday July 29th 2023 OIAA had an Assembly meeting. During the Assembly meeting the Chairs Report was given along with he Treasury Report.  Contact/ Vendor Agreements were reviewed on how to download and complete the Agreement Requests. These requests will be sent to the OIAA Treasurer. Budget & Un-Budgeted Requests were reviewed. These will also be sent to the Treasurer. If the Un-Budgeted Request is under $500.00 it can be approved by the OIAA Board – if the Un-Budgeted Request is over $500.00 the request must have an Assembly Vote. There was a motion to have the Secretary attend the ICOAA – which OIAA is new to ICOAA and there is a desire to build a relationship between the two groups. As the OIAA Intergroup Rep for Dawn Patrol – I voted against this since the Secretary attended the last meeting and I felt this should be rotated and others given the opportunity to attend / participate. The motion passed for the Secretary to be provided $1500.00 in all paid expenses and attend ICOAA meeting.  Also there was a vote on hiring an IT person to assist with website traffic, which has over 1 million visitors per month – I voted for this as assistance is needed with a high profile / traffic site for OIAA.  There was also a vote for payment of approximately $5,000 for interpreter service for the Second International Online Convention. Also there was a vote on a bylaw change to remove the Finance Chairperson and have the Treasurer chair the Finance Committee. There was a good bit of discussion on this proposal.

Challenge:

With the recent separation from the in person group we are in the beginning stages of forming a new group, and looking for a new GSR for the group, an Alternate IG Rep, and a Literature and Coin person. We are in the beginning stages of the new group but have made significant progress as mentioned in the Successes listed above.

Challenge:

OIAA continues to have multiple Service Opportunities which are being announced at on-line meetings. The opportunities are vast as this the online community continues to grow and is ever expanding. Anyone interested in serving with the online AA community is encouraged to reach out to either Mike T or Susan R.

Learning: “Zoom babies” continue with their success of staying sober one day at a time and celebrating their sobriety.  There has been an increase in group members attending Tradition study after the Sunday Morning Big Book Meeting for those interested in service positions. They are learning to be responsible. They have contributed to the group with their service and are rotating out. We continue to have participation with new members that continue to get involved in service positions to help the group in carrying the load of Zoom meetings.

Respectfully submitted, Mike T., Dawn Patrol Online and Dawn Patrol Online Meeting
