Treasurer – Duties / Qualifications

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Keeps accurate records of all financial records, tax returns, and accounting transactions
  • Receive contributions and maintains the OIAA 7th tradition funds in an account in the name of the Online Intergroup of Alcoholics Anonymous as designated by the voting members
  • Countersigns all checks/transactions prepared in payment of invoices
  • Maintains copies of all bank statements,
  • Prepares monthly financial statements and reports to the membership on OIAA’s financial health
  • Prepares and files all required compliance filings to the Internal Revenue Service (Form 990), State of New Jersey Department of Finance, and Office of the Secretary of the State of New Jersey and makes them available for auditors review
  • The Treasurer reports to the Board on the filing of auditable financials for tax return preparation to the appropriate parties
  • Stays abreast of any tax or legal considerations and informs the Board of Trustees of same
  • Participates as a member of OIAA’s Finance Committee
  • Treasurer may be called upon to speak of financial matters to the assembly
  • The Treasurer may delegate responsibilities to the Alternate Treasurer as s/he deems necessary


  • A sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous
  • Organizational skills for good record-keeping; accounting or bookkeeping experience
  • Computer skills appropriate for the duties of the position, especially working with spreadsheets
  • Ability to speak about financial matters to an audience that does not have financial skills
  • Leadership qualities – See Concept IX, Twelve Concepts for World Service, pages C27-C32
  • A sound understanding and appreciation of applying the Steps, the Traditions and the Concepts of Alcoholics Anonymous, along with a will-ingness to consult with others who have a wealth of experience gained through applying these guiding principles successfully to problems
