May Workshop Focus:
Safety Townhall: Beyond the Zoom settings
As our groups continue to grow in understanding and effectiveness – online – we’re being called to apply our timeless principles in new ways. This workshop invites open conversation about safety, inclusivity, and responsibility in our shared digital spaces. We plan to open the floor for groups to share how you are handling the challenges and concerns affecting the sense of safety of your online group and meetings… beyond the settings and clicks in Zoom. Technology changes. The Traditions and Principles don’t—but how we apply them might, when we ask questions like:
💬 Navigating Conflict in the Rooms
- “How do we handle disagreements in a way that supports recovery?”
- “What does healthy conflict look like in an online meeting?”
- “When behavior becomes disruptive, what’s the right response?”
🤝 Inclusivity & Leadership Style
- “What does a truly welcoming and inclusive online meeting feel like?”
- “How do leadership styles shape the safety and tone of our meetings?”
- “Where is the balance between structure and shared participation?”
🔒Private Messaging & Personal Boundaries
- “How can you draw the line between connection and intrusion?”
- “How can we protect members—especially newcomers—in private communications?”
- “What boundaries help keep our fellowship safe and respectful?”
🌱 Protecting Newcomers
- “What do newcomers experience when they enter our meetings today?”
- “Are we creating an environment that feels safe, or overwhelming?”
- “What safeguards should be in place for those most vulnerable?”
💵 Boundaries Around Money & Support
- “Where are the healthy boundaries when it comes to financial help?”
- “How do we prevent pressure, influence, or misunderstanding?”
- “What guidance should groups offer around giving and receiving support?”
🧭 Aligning with Principles
- “How do we recognize when behavior drifts from our shared principles?”
- “What responsibility do we have to uphold group safety and unity?”
- “How can we address concerns without creating division?”
We look forward to your participation and hearing how your group has responded to the questions you have faced.
