Update for Unity Committee Feb 2026

Unity Committee Chair Report – February 2026

An overview of the last month:

    1. The committee has significantly settled following the recent upheavals and are committed to working together for the common good. 
  • Unity Committee Officers
      1. Bleu B, Unity Committee Secretary, has had to step down from the committee due to personal circumstances. 
      2. The Convention Chair and Unity Secretary roles are currently vacant and I am scouting for potential candidates.
    2. Regular reporting within the committee and the OIAA structure – this has been established more easily, with grateful thanks to the Technology Team in making the website an integral tool for uploading and translating all the documents.
    3. Interpretation services review and research 
      1. An ad-hoc subcommittee was established to research other, more cost effective, ways of providing interpretation services to our membership. The point of research was focussed on Wordly: AI Translation and Captions.  After attending a demonstration and receiving the subscription charges, it was decided that the costs were prohibitive, the technology and bandwidth required was out of reach for many of our members and, hence, the committee agreed that this was not a viable option, and that we should continue with the services from our professional interpreters.  Please see the review document, on the Unity website page, for full details.
    4. Unity Convention Budget review – an ad-hoc subcommittee was established to review and develop a new proposal to take forward to the Assembly. Our priority was to ensure that, whilst endeavouring to reduce costs, we did not, in any way, compromise our ability to provide our membership with the best possible access to the convention and committee meetings.       1. Four options were considered
        1. 5 rooms over 3 days
        2. 5 rooms over 2 days
        3. 4 rooms over 3 days
        4. 4 rooms over 2 days
      2. We presented all these options to the Unity Committee with the recommendation to consider primarily options 2 and 3.
      3. Following discussion, the Committee voted to present option 3, 4 rooms over 3 days, to the Finance Committee and if approved onto the Board and Assembly.
  • The revised OIAA2026 budget was presented to the Finance Committee and the vote unanimously approved the proposal to present to the Board and Assembly.
    1. The revised budget will be uploaded to the website once full approval has been granted from the Assembly in March.

 

  • Unity Liaison sub-committee
    1. Following the remit of the Committee’s Charter it was agreed that a sub-committee should be established to recommence the work of the Unity Liaison.  The main objectives are: 
      1. Connection – building awareness of OIAA, OIAA events, and the support available to groups.
      2. Develop awareness of service opportunities within OIAA committees, 
      3. Cultivate involvement in the annual OIAA Unity Online International Convention.

Objectives for the next month

    1. Continue to build a stable, active and consistent membership for the Unity Committee to allow us to fulfil the Charter.
    2. OIAA2026 Online International Convention following budget approval at Assembly.
      1. Sub-committee to begin initial planning for the daily scheduling and Group recruitment (including criteria for Hosting Groups and clear expectations)
      2. Marketing & Communications – new logo development for Unity & Convention to create consistency and a recognisable logo – look to recruit Marketing & Communication volunteer Lead.
    3. Unity Liaison work
      1. Planning and coordination of short term strategy to engage with OIAA member groups.
      2. Recruitment of Unity Liaison Region Reps and Country Liaison Reps – already in progress (Feb 2026)
      3. Collaborate with IGR Steppers 
    4. Recruitment of Unity Committee Officers 
      1. OIAA2026 Convention Chair
      2. Unity Committee Secretary
      3. Marketing & Communications Lead (OIAA2026)
  • Continue to cultivate cross committee collaboration
