UNITY LIAISON UPDATE
The committee continues to cultivate relationships with OIAA member groups through meeting visits and relationship building.
Members continue visiting OIAA member groups through the directory and connecting with groups in an informal and supportive way. When appropriate, members share information about OIAA resources, committee service opportunities, the upcoming convention, and the monthly IGR Workshop. The emphasis remains on building relationships and supporting groups rather than following a scripted approach.
Next IGR Workshop

Members were encouraged to invite both new and experienced IGRs to attend.
CONTINUED BUSINESS
Standalone Closing Statement Proposal – Janice K
Motion: That the Unity Committee close meetings using the Responsibility Statement as the sole closing statement, without the Serenity Prayer.
Committee discussion included perspectives regarding inclusivity and spiritual diversity, as well as support for preserving AA traditions, maintaining the committee’s established meeting format, and retaining both the Responsibility Statement and Serenity Prayer as part of the meeting closing. Members expressed appreciation for the thoughtful discussion and for bringing the proposal forward for consideration.
Following discussion, the committee voted on the proposal.
Vote Results
For: 1 Against: 8 Abstentions: 2
Result: Motion failed.
The committee will continue closing meetings with both the Responsibility Statement and the Serenity Prayer.
NEW BUSINESS
Unity WhatsApp Language Groups
Discussion focused on improving communication and support within Unity Committee language groups.
Updates:
Carlos D will continue assisting with Spanish and Portuguese language communications.
Jeff T will continue assisting with French language communications.
Jeannette B will contact language-group administrators to confirm active participation and support needs.
A standard welcome/introduction message will be developed for language-group members.
No additional volunteers were identified for other language groups at this time.
Interpretation & Accessibility
The committee discussed standardizing interpretation-request language across Unity Committee materials to ensure consistency and reduce confusion regarding notice requirements:
Two weeks’ notice remains the standard request period for interpretation services.
Requests received with shorter notice will be accommodated when possible.
Commonly requested languages may be easier to arrange on shorter notice.
Less frequently requested languages may require additional lead time.
Future convention interpretation needs, including Korean language support, will continue to be evaluated.
OTHER BUSINESS
New attendees were welcomed and encouraged to become involved in committee service activities.
Manny B requested experience-sharing from members regarding a matter outside the scope of the Unity Committee and provided his email address in the chat for anyone willing to connect with him after the meeting.
Terry Lynn expressed interest in shadowing Unity Liaison visits to learn how information is shared during group visits and to gain experience for future participation in liaison activities.
