O, A, AV Eye Opener

This is a full audio and video AA meeting, and takes place every day at 6:00 a.m. Pacific Time (UTC-8). It uses a free video-conferencing service (appear.in) that relies on the new WebRTC standard, so most people don't have to install any new software to use it. You never have to create an account or even give any kind of name for yourself when you attend a meeting; just click the link and you're in. That makes it simpler, more private, and more respectful of the Principle of Anonymity.

It works from any computer with a webcam, but works best from Google's Chrome browser. It also works from most smartphones if you install the free appear.in app. Appear.in uses an intuitive "room" metaphor. No more than eight people can be in each meeting room at once, but we have reserved a series of meeting rooms for our group. If one is full, you try the next one, and the next one, etc. Each meeting lasts 30 minutes, and is led by a chairperson (usually the first person to enter the room) using this simple meeting format: http://goo.gl/4MNHhf

To join, just go to www.PortlandEyeOpener.org and click the image next to the words "we host a short web meeting every morning at 6:00. Click here to attend!" Then follow the instructions. Joining a meeting is as simple as clicking a link on that next page; no need to register, sign in, or install anything.

C, A, CH, AV, DF One Day at a Time AA Group

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, discussing
a chosen topic

O, AtAg, AV Sober Tuesday

"Sober Tuesday" uses Skype to meet weekly at 7,8,9,10 pm (Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern respectively) for one hour each Tuesday. We usually discuss secular AA topics chosen by participants at the start of the hour or we choose various secular AA literature to discuss.

To join the meeting, send a Skype contact request message to "AAFreeThinker1" or if you are not yet a Skype user you can send me Dave C, an Email to "AAFreeThinker1@verizon.net" asking to be added to the group.

Note that the group call uses voice only. Also, one's Skype profile photo should be replaced with an anonymous image. Participants are asked to keep their microphones muted until called upon to speak. Inactive past participants are periodically removed to allow for new persons to be added, since Skype's maximum is 25 persons per call.

I highly suggest trying this alternative, particularly for those persons who find it difficult to develop a secular AA support group in their own geographic location. Regardless, you will find this to be a wonderfully supportive and friendly group. Dave C
